The Midi's - Part II

Yesterday I talked about the story of the Midi Skirt, and I can even bet that at some point you were saying something like “yeah, yeah, very pretty and elegant but how can I wear it”).

Well, in fact, managing a midi skirt in an elegant and pretty way is a tricky task. But I’m going to tell you a few tricks that you can use to sport the midi and shine in this season!

High Heels

The midi skirts “scream” for heels, unless you’re one of those lucky leggy girls you’ll look shorter with flats or tennis and we don’t want that to happen! So you absolutely must wear heels!

Opt for shades of the color of the skirt or a nude ton.  Avoid shoes with ankle straps and expose the top of the foot to lengthen the appearance of your leg.

Length

If you’re short, stick to a skirt that hits just above or below the knee. If you’re taller, any length will do so long as it doesn’t go below your ankles.

Accessories

Edge up the classic look of the midi skirt with some pretty accessories, a nice watch or some bracelets, it’s up to you. But remember less is always more.

Tops

Since it tends to covers up so much leg choosing a form-fitting crop top it’s a good choice, and you can even pair it with a high-waisted midi for the perfect silhouette. However, if you don’t feel comfortable showing you tummy, opt for a fitting blouse or top and finish it up with a slim waist belt.

Ontem falei-vos um pouco da história da saia Midi e aposto que a dada altura já todos diziam algo como, “sim, sim muito bonito e elegante mas como usá-la na verdade?”

De facto, para combinar uma saia Midi de uma forma elegante e bonita nem sempre é tarefa fácil. Mas deixo-vos algumas dicas para fazerem sucesso e brilharem nesta estação.

Saltos Altos

As saias midi “gritam” por saltos altos, a não ser que sejam daquelas sortudas com pernas esguias e com 1,70cm de altura, irão parecer mais baixas se calçarem umas sabrinas ou uns ténis com uma saia Midi. Logo é obrigatório usar saltos altos!

Uma outra dica para alongar a silhueta depreende-se com a escolha da cor, opte por tons da cor da saia ou pelo ton nude. Evite os sapatos com tiras no tornozelo e procure mostrar sempre o peito do pé.

Comprimento

Se for baixinha o ideal será optar por uma saia com um comprimento logo abaixo do joelho.Se for magra e alta pode usar perfeitamente uma saia um pouco mais comprida.

Acessórios

Use acessórios modernos para quebrar o estilo clássico da saia, um relógio bonito, umas pulseiras. Enfim, fica ao vosso critério desde que não fiquem a parecer um pinheirinho de Natal. Lembrem-se que “menos é mais”.

Tops

Dado que o estilo da saia cobre metade da perna, os crop-tops (aqueles tops justinhos que ficam ao nível da linha do umbigo) são uma boa opção e até poderá optar por uma saia de cintura subida para criar a silhueta perfeita. Mas se não gosta de mostrar a barriga poderá optar por uma blusa ou um top, há quem os prefira justos ao corpo, mas pessoalmente gosto daquelas blusas ou tops em tecidos fluidos com um cinto fininho a definir a cintura.

The Midi's

Today, I’m gonna talk about the midi’s, yes the midi’s skirts are back! They are the latest trend for this Spring/Summer collection. It’s funny because I’ve always admired the clothes from de 40’s/50’s but I must confess that I didn’t know the story behind the confection of those remarkable clothes, or should I say the the troubled times in which they appeared?

In the research I made for this article I discovered that the Midi Skirt appeared with the outbreak of World War II, and as is obvious in the full context of war, function superseded form in fashion which has become secondary.

In order to save materials and money, the governments limited the types and quantities of fabrics needed for the confection of clothes. So women started restyling their clothes, an excellent strategy to adopt in this current economic crisis to keep us in fashion with fewer resources.

As a result the midi skirt creation comes up with two functions, on one hand it required less tissue; on the other hand it was more practical for woman who had returned to the labor market.

With the war over the length of skirts remained, because they were more practical and easy to wear. However, Christian Dior revolutionized fashion in the post-war in February 1947. In the collection later called "New Look", Dior presented a reinterpretation of the Midi skirt, with a well marked waist, pleats that give more volume and a certain drama to the hips and in much more luxurious fabrics, an attempt to show luxury and sophistication after the repression imposed by the war.

A few years now many fashion designers have brought to their collections clothes that marked an era, as we’re now witnessing the return of MIDI'S, using them in lighter and far more feminine ensembles.

  

Hoje vou falar-vos de uma das tendências que marcam a colecção Primavera/Verão deste ano. O Regresso da saia Midi! Curiosamente sempre admirei as peças de roupa dos anos 40/50, mas confesso que desconhecia a história por trás da confecção das mesmas, ou deverei dizer antes, a época conturbada em que as mesmas surgiram?

Na pesquisa que efetuei para este artigo descobri que a saia Midi surgiu na altura da Segunda Guerra Mundial, e como é óbvio em pleno contexto de guerra a moda tornou-se secundária. O fornecimento dos tecidos ficou extremamente condicionado, quer no tipo, quer nas quantidades fornecidas; o que levou as mulheres a reformularem o seu vestuário e a optarem por outros materiais. Algo que temos vindo a assistir com frequência no actual contexto de crise e que não deixa de ser uma excelente estratégia para nos mantermos na moda com menos recursos.

A saia Midi surge então com duas funções por um lado a sua confecção exigia menos tecido que as saias usadas nos anos 30, por outro lado conferia um carácter mais prático para o dia-a-dia da mulher que voltara ao mercado de trabalho.

Com o fim da guerra o comprimento das saias manteve-se pelo sentido prático e simples, mas Christian Dior revolucionou a moda do pós-guerra em Fevereiro de 1947. Na colecção posteriormente denominada por movimento “New Look”, Dior apresentou uma reinterpretação da saia Midi.

Surge então uma saia com a cintura bem marcada, com pregas que lhe davam mais volume e um certo dramatismo e em tecidos mais luxuosos. Uma tentativa de ostentar luxo e sofisticação após a repressão imposta pela guerra.

Curiosamente há uns anos para cá muitos estilistas têm trazido para as suas colecções peças de roupa que marcaram uma época, como se assiste agora ao regresso das MIDI’S, utilizando-as em conjuntos mais leves e bem mais femininos.

Photo Wall / Decorar uma Parede com Fotos

I’m a huge fan of black & white photographs and I always found very interesting giving our home our personal touch. Besides that, it’s always an excellent trick to avoid buying those frames with pictures on that a thousand people have hanged in their homes.
So in that order I bought those beautiful silver frames (40x50 cm), searched for the best photos I took on my trips. I chose the most representative photos of the cities I visited, but you can choose any photo you like, although the ideal is picking photos taken by yourselves. Then I turned them in black & white, printed in the right size and hung the frames on the wall.
Et voilá! Now I have this amazing photo wall that brings me great memories. Especially after a long and hard day of work it feels nice to look at those pictures and remember how good it is to be on holidays.

Sou uma fan número 1 de fotos a preto e branco e sempre achei interessante dar um cunho pessoal à decoração da casa. Além disso é uma excelente dica para evitar cair na tentação de comprar molduras com imagens incluídas que centenas de pessoas adquirem e penduram nas suas casas.          
Por isso, deixo-vos uma sugestão fácil e económica para personalizarem a vossa casa e torna-la mais representativa da vossa personalidade. Confesso que a torna também bem mais acolhedora. 
Assim sendo, comprei umas molduras bonitas, escolhi umas prateadas (40x50 cm), pesquisei as melhores fotos que tirei em viagens (optei por escolher as fotos mais representativas das cidades que visitei), mas vocês podem escolher quaisquer fotos que gostem, ainda que o ideal seria escolherem fotos tiradas por vocês mesmos. Coloquei-as a preto e branco e depois foi só imprimi-las na dimensão certa e pendurar as molduras na parede. Et Voilá! Fiquei com uma parede giríssima (modéstia à parte) e que me traz sempre óptimas recordações, especialmente após um longo e difícil dia de trabalho sabe bem olhar para as fotos e recordar o quão bom é estar de férias.
